Pay bills digitally

Paying bills and invoices is something most of us do every month.

Paying your bills digitally is no more difficult than paying in the traditional way. You can do what you usually do, gathering together the bills until the end of the month, provided you know when you need to pay them. Then log on to your bank’s website and search for “payments” and then pay them one at a time.

If you have several accounts with your bank, you first need to specify which of your accounts the money should be taken from. Next, you need to specify who the recipient is by entering their Bankgiro/Plusgiro number. One great thing about using the internet to do this is that the bank remembers your recipients, so you only need to fill in this information once. The information is then stored in a list that you can easily browse through to find the recipient’s name and Bankgiro/Plusgiro number.

Next, you must enter an OCR number. This is usually the fairly long row of figures at the bottom of the invoice. The OCR number is a type of reference number that ensures that you have entered the correct amount and recipient. You also need to specify when you want the bill to be paid. You can complete this process well in advance, even when you receive your invoice in the post, for example. This means you can rest assured that it will be paid on time. And finally, you need to sign the payment with your digital ID, which can be a BankID, bank card reader or anything else that the bank provides.
