BankID and Mobile BankID

identification

The Swedish banking industry has a unique history of collaboration. Together,
Sweden's seven largest banks developed and created BankID, and
the service will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023.

Andreas

Some people find getting a BankID a bit difficult. Some banks will require you to visit the bank personally and identify yourself with an approved Swedish ID document the first time you need a BankID. However, this is where the slightly older generation has an advantage, as they are used to visiting their bank branch. Once you have a BankID, literally a whole new world of opportunities opens up and you can both identify yourself and sign agreements digitally.

BankID is both safe and secure, but remember that a BankID is a valuable document comparable to a passport. Therefore, you always need to manage your BankID in a secure manner. It is important that you never open your BankID at the request of someone who calls you. If you’re not sure, hang up the phone!

Andreas Bergqvist, Security Manager, BankID

Did you know that?

About 8.2 million Swedes have a BankID. A main requirement for obtaining  a BankID is that you have a Swedish personal identity number and are registered in Sweden.
BankID is used by about 5,000 organizations; the majority are Swedish authorities, regions, banks and companies.

Andreas gives tips!

Keep your data to yourself

Never open your BankID at the request of someone else, in the same way that you would never give out your passport to a stranger who contacts you.

Activate location services

Share your location in the BankID app. The purpose is to increase your security and prevent fraud. Location information is only active when using the BankID app.

Be sceptical

It’s good to be a bit suspicious and remember that it’s often you, the user, who is the tool that is required for a scam attempt to be successful. For us at BankID, the most important thing is to protect your identity and privacy, and this is what we work on around the clock.
