Q&A

Here are some of the answers to the most frequently asked questions about BankID. Can’t find the answer to what you’re looking for? Please contact us or your bank.

What is BankID?

BankID is an electronic ID that you use when you need to prove your identity on the internet, e.g., at the bank, at Försäkringskassan or with any authority. There are three different types – BankID on file, BankID on card and Mobile BankID.

You order your BankID from your online bank. You also need to install the BankID security software/app needed for your BankID to work. Your BankID is personal, you’re the only one who should use it.

How do I order BankID?

You order BankID from your bank. To order a BankID, you must have a Swedish personal identity number. There are also requirements that the various banks set, such as a lower age limit and that you are registered in Sweden. Exactly how you order a BankID differs between different banks. At some banks, a personal visit to the bank office is required where you identify yourself with an approved Swedish ID document, while at others you can log in to your internet bank and order your BankID directly. You can read more on your bank’s website.

Keep in mind that you need to install the BankID security software/app before you can order a BankID

Does BankID security software/app need to be installed?

Yes.

I forgot the password/security code for my BankID, what should I do?

If you have a BankID on file or Mobile BankID, you can’t recreate a lost password/security code. It is not saved in a readable format anywhere and it is not possible to obtain it, even if you still have your BankID. You must order a new BankID from your bank. Start by blocking your BankID and removing it from your computer.

If you have a BankID on card and have a PUK code together with a PIN code, you can reset the PIN code using the PUK code.

Can I see a history of how I’ve used my BankID?

In the BankID app, you can see the history of the BankID events associated with your personal identity number.

Open the BankID app, select Settings and click on your name. This will display, among other things, the My BankID History option, which you can click on.

You will then see a list of the BankID events that exist for your personal identity number (i.e., as well as for any BankID other than the current one). When you click on an event in the list, detailed information about it is displayed. Please note that details of what you have signed, such as paid amounts and the likes, are not available to us and therefore cannot be displayed. Only you and the service you have used have that information.

How do I block my BankID?

You block your BankID by contacting your bank, either by calling their internet support or logging into the internet bank.

What is a QR code?

It’s a unique barcode. Among other things, it can be used with the BankID app to ensure that the device where you use the BankID service is located near the mobile with the BankID app. A QR code looks like this:
